The largest permanent coin mural recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records is located in Ranchero California and measures 191.3 Square feet. This new mural will beat the old record by nearly twenty square feet. Why: The massive 700-pound coin mural was the result of an inspiration that started five years ago. I wanted to design something of meaning and something to be proud of; something that would inspire and create awe in everyone who came to see it. It took me years to find the right image. I did not want to build something this big and important and make it an advertisement or something cheesy. I chose the American flag. The flag is the most important symbol in our country. The flag is the one image that best represents who we are and what we believe in. It represents our worldviews of democracy, freedom and individual rights. Because of the troubled times we are living in, I thought a grand old flag would create an atmosphere and provide a spark of inspiration for understanding, unity. When people see it I want them to feel the respectful of who we are, what we have, and what we can achieve. Every time I placed a coin on the mural I felt proud to be an American The Worlds Largest Permanent Coin Mural And Walk on History Floor Click on any image below for full view

Constructing it to the exact requirements dictated by executive order 10834, which sets the dimensions an official US flag must meet, further emphasizes the importance of the coin mural. Even though my flag measures 10.5 feet tall and over 20 feet wide, it is within 1/16 of an inch of every requirement needed to be an official flag. The stripes are the perfect width (9.69 inches), the Union is the perfect dimension (5.654 X 7.89 feet), the stars are the perfect radius (7.76 inches), the height is perfect (126 inches) and the width is perfect (239.40 inches), and because of the uneven wall, it even appears to be waving in the wind. After long consideration and lots of input from friends and relatives on how to color the stripes and union without painting it, I decided to use old coins that were brown for the red stripes and brilliant uncirculated coins for the white stripes. The coins on the white stripes would be overlapped one way and the coins on the red stripes would overlap the opposite way so that when lit at a certain angle it would create dark shadows on the brown (red) stripes and a bright glow from the brilliant (white) stripes. This effect further enhanced the desired contrast for the two colors. The Union (blue) portion was meticulously laid out in a creative geometrical pattern made up of both new and old coins that contrasts nicely with the stripes. Currently the stars are bright white pieces of paper glued on to the union and present a nice contrast to the brown and red colors of the coin flag mural. The stars are a work in progress. Eventually the stars will be made of 1943 US steel pennies from zinc. I am looking forward to seeing each and every one of you in the store real soon.
